Hi! Welcome to Abroad&Rising!

Born in a small village in China in the 80s, I was extremely lucky that my parents envisioned the importance of education. They motivated me to change my life as a village girl by acquiring higher education. I did My bachelor and master in China; I’m truly grateful to the mentors I met who lifted me up and encouraged me to go abroad for further study. On September 1st, 2010, I landed in Vancouver, Canada to pursue my phD study in UBC. This led me to work and live as an immigrant in Canada.

As an immigrant, I’ve gone through a lot of challenges and struggles in different stages, in terms of language, culture, communication, interpersonal relationship, career and more. I’ve met and connected with fellow immigrants who have generously shared with me their inspiring stories, taught me valuable lessons they’ve learned in their journey, supported me with their resources and actions, and impacted my mindset and life.

The Abroad&Rising podcast/blog is about stories of immigrants. We may come from different origins, but we have this shared experience of adapting, building/rebuilding our life and ultimately thriving abroad. Your struggle may be related by another immigrant, and how you conquer your struggle may set a good example for another immigrant. The lessons you learned may help another immigrant; the success you had may inspire another immigrant; the story you tell may enlighten another fellow immigrant in his/her journey.

Abroad&Rising – Here is to share empowering stories of immigrants! I’m looking forward to sharing my experience and reflections as an immigrant, and I’m also looking forward to meeting you my fellow immigrant, to learn about your story and spread the message to other fellow immigrants.
